Start with document capacity, not the finish
A presentation folder should be designed around what it needs to hold. A simple proposal or company profile may only need one internal pocket, while a sales pack with pricing, brochures, forms or separate document groups is easier to organize with two pockets.
For thicker tenders or document sets, the folder may need extra capacity through a spine or gusset rather than forcing more sheets into a flat pocket. That decision should be made before the die-line and artwork are finalized.
Single-Pocket Folders
Simple A4 presentation folders for proposals, reports, company profiles and one main document set.
Double-Pocket Folders
Useful when pricing, contracts, brochures or supporting material should be separated into two sides.
Folders with Card Slots
A die-cut slit can hold a business card inside the folder so contact details stay with the presentation pack.
Spine / Capacity Folders
For thicker proposals, tender packs or larger document sets where a flat folder does not provide enough capacity.
Build the folder around the documents your client will receive
The most useful folder is not necessarily the most complex one. Pocket count, card slot, capacity and construction should match the contents.
1 or 2 pockets
Choose a single pocket for simple packs or two pockets when documents need separation.
Business card slit
Add a die-cut slit where the folder should hold a contact card as part of the presentation.
Flat or spine
Flat folders suit thinner document sets; thicker packs may need a spine or gusset.
Glued or self-lock
Glued pockets arrive ready to use; interlocking/self-lock structures assemble without glued pocket seams.
Choose the internal layout before preparing the artwork
Good for one main proposal, report or company profile. A card slit can keep contact details with the documents.
Better for sales kits and multi-part presentations where one side can hold the main document and the other supporting material.
350gsm card gives the folder enough structure for repeated handling
The existing J Designo folder specification uses A4 size and 350gsm Art Matt with printing on both sides and matte or gloss lamination. That gives a solid base for corporate folders intended to carry standard A4 documents.
The final die-line must account for the pocket shape, tabs, folds, card slots and any spine or capacity requirement before artwork is placed.
| Finished Use | Designed around standard A4 documents, proposals, company profiles and presentation material. |
|---|---|
| Base Stock | 350gsm Art Matt is a practical structured card option for corporate presentation folders. |
| Printing | Both-side printing allows branding on the cover, interior panels and pocket areas where required. |
| Lamination | Matte or gloss lamination can protect the printed surface and change the final appearance. |
| Construction | One-pocket, two-pocket, glued and self-lock/interlocking styles can be selected according to the folder design. |
Do not design the folder as a simple rectangle. The final file must follow the actual cut, fold, tab and pocket structure.
Use finishing to protect the folder or highlight selected brand details
Matte and gloss lamination are the clearest base options for the current J Designo folder product. Other premium finishing methods such as Spot UV, foil, embossing or custom die-cuts can be discussed project by project where they suit the artwork and production method.
Matte Lamination
Lower glare and a restrained corporate finish suitable for proposals, consultancy packs and premium business stationery.
Gloss Lamination
Brighter colour and a more reflective surface for image-led branding and promotional presentation folders.
Spot UV
Can be considered to create selective gloss contrast on logos, names or cover graphics.
Foil Stamping
Can add metallic emphasis to selected brand elements on executive or premium presentation folders.
Embossing / Debossing
Can create a tactile raised or recessed logo treatment where the paper and artwork support it.
Custom Die-Cut Details
Use die-cutting for pocket shapes, card slits, windows or non-standard structural details.

Folder artwork starts with the structural template
Use the final die-line before design is approved. Pocket folders include cuts and folds that affect the usable design area.
Artwork should account for the outside cover, inside panels, pocket faces, fold lines, glue or locking areas, card slits and bleed. Important text and logos should stay away from folds and cut edges.
If the folder needs to hold an existing brochure, company profile or thick proposal, share those dimensions before the structural layout is finalized.

Questions before ordering custom folders
What is a presentation folder?
A presentation folder is a printed card folder designed to hold loose documents, proposals, brochures, company profiles, quotations or other business material. Internal pockets keep the contents organized while the outer and inner surfaces carry the company branding.
Should I choose one pocket or two pockets?
Choose one pocket when the folder holds one main document set. Two pockets are useful when you want to separate items such as a proposal and pricing, a company profile and certificates, or brochures and forms.
Can a presentation folder include a business card slot?
Yes, a die-cut business card slit can be added to an internal pocket where required. It is useful for sales packs and client meetings because the contact card stays with the presentation documents.
What paper or card is used for folder printing?
The current J Designo specification includes 350gsm Art Matt for A4 presentation folders. Other paper or card directions can be discussed when the folder design or production requirement calls for a different construction.
What is the difference between glued and self-lock folders?
Glued folders use adhesive to secure the pocket structure. Self-lock or interlocking folders use die-cut tabs and slots that assemble mechanically. The correct method depends on the die-line, quantity, storage and desired construction.
Can folders hold thick proposals or many sheets?
Flat pocket folders are best for thinner document sets. If the pack is thicker, a spine, gusset or capacity pocket may be more suitable. Share the approximate thickness of the documents before the folder structure is finalized.
Can premium finishes such as Spot UV or foil be added?
Premium finishing can be discussed for suitable projects. Spot UV, foil, embossing or custom die-cut details should be confirmed against the selected paper, artwork, quantity and production method before final approval.
What should I send for a folder printing quote?
Send the quantity, document size, preferred one- or two-pocket layout, approximate document thickness, card-slot requirement, printing sides, lamination preference, artwork status and required completion date.
